Nick Macca Savage

March 13, 1975 – September 5, 2003

Memorial Gathering at Fremont Memorial Chapel

Fremont, California

September 10, 2003

As family and friends, we are here to express our gratitude for Nick’s presence in our lives and to experience the healing and understanding that can happen when we open our hearts, together.

My name is Dr. Tricia McMahon and I have been blessed to know Macca and Rosie for this past year.  Now, these last 6 days, I have had the privilege  to walk with them at this time of such profound sorrow.

I have heard about a young man everybody loved, and loved to be around—he was ‘the life of the party.’  And I have witnessed some of the despair, anger, heartache that Nick’s passing has evoked.

My prayer, is that tonight, and each day and night that follows, will be not just the passing of time without Nick, but will be a time for healing of relationships, deepening of our hearts, and a renewed commitment to life and love within each of us.

Nicholas Macca Savage, born March 13, 1975, was named Nicholas in honor of his Dad’s best friend named, Nicholas.  “Macca” has been a family name for many generations.

He was a generous, caring and positive person; a pleasure to be around. He was also an avid 49er Fan!! His Aunt Debbie recalls:  “On 49er Sunday’s you need to NOT EVEN TRY to get a hold of him!!” He loved to camp and loved EAGLES, which is why the family chose to have an eagle engraved on Nick’s urn.

The following two poems were shared during Nick’s memorial service:

Prayer of One Who Is Moving On

Guardian, guide, no pillar of cloud by day nor fire by night,

Yet I sense your presence with me, God of the journey.

You are walking with me into a new land.

You are guarding me in my vulnerable moment.

You are dwelling within me as I depart from here.

You are promising to be my peace as I face the struggles of distance from friends and family.

Renew in me a deep trust in  you.  Calm my anxiousness.

As I reflect on my life I can clearly see

How you have been there in all of my leavings; you have been there

In all of my comings.

You will always be with me in everything.

I place my life into the welcoming arms of your love.

Encircle my heart with your peace.

May your powerful presence soar like an eagle

Through every fiber of my being.

His Journey’s Just Begun

Don’t’ think of him as gone away,

His journey has just begun.

Life holds so many facets,

This earth is only one.

Just think of him as resting

From the sorrows and the tears,

In a place of warmth and comfort,

Where there are no days and years.

Think of how he must be wishing

That we could know, today,

How nothing but our sadness

Can really pass away.

And think of him as living

In the hearts of those he touched

For nothing loved is ever lost

And he was loved so much.
